Please move me if not appropriate for this specific forum. Not really a classified, more about pricing tech so thought this might be the place.

Selling my 2006 to my parents (with first right of refusal to buy back of course). Not driving it enough (only 52K miles), and still have my FJ40, so not like I'm totally without wheelin' capability.

Problem I'm having is this: I've got lots of accessories on it, and I know they don't mean much to a dealer, but they do to me, and I'm sure to a lot of you. How do you value them? I'm guessing they're more or less valuable based on the buyer.

Owned it since Day 1, only real problem I've had with it (and history of it posted here) was with the AHC, but that's rectified now with OME system. Flawless maintenance, the only thing other than AHC that every didn't work was the exhaust, and that's because of this big rock in the Black Hills a couple years ago ;) but I got that replaced.

ARB Sahara with PIAA's and Warn 8000
Slee Sliders and Rear, both recently line-x'd to match sahara bar
Custom Aluminum skid plate, mostly for deep snow, not really a heavy rock guard
Full OME suspension, forget the lift, but fits 33's perfectly
New tires, Toyo MT's and Studded Duratrac's.
Ipod adaptor and custom sound system, dynamat in doors
car starter

I consider it in Very Good condition, and see that's coming up as 34,700 on KBB. Attached the one pic I could find on short notice, it was the only vehicle that could park on this spot on the street that day, so we took the opportunity. ;)

Thanks for any advice you can give -

John

Depends on how you look at it. Most people give family a better deal than what they could sell it for to a stranger. Personally, I doubt you would recoup hardly any of the cost of the upgrades from just about any random buyer, even someone who knows about LCs and how much those upgrades cost.... The only way to really know how much it's worth is to look around and see what similar cruisers in the area are going for. Then take that price and go over the upgrades and see if your family wants to pay ya for em. I think your at the point a lot of people get to when adding expensive upgrades: finding out they were only worth that cost to you.... Sounds like your looking to get bailed out at the expense of your parents.

Personally, if they are giving you first right of refusal to buy it back, I would give it to them for a price which does not include the accessories. That way if you buy it back your not buying back the accessories on the 2nd time around.

U have the slee rear bumper? Pm me, I am interested.

Low miles and upgrades aside, any 100 over $30k sits for a very long time (if it gets sold at all) because you're now in pricing territory of a 200 with 75k+ miles on it. Here's an 06 with a similiar build to yours with higher miles that has been posted over and over for months with no success. My opinion yours would sell on the open market for ~$28-32k, but like stated before most people would sell to family for a discount. If your parents don't need the extra stuff but you still want to get a reasonable price for it, I'd take it back to stock and sell the upgrades since they're not increasing the value significantly at that price point.

Thanks for the advice guys

Are you trying to nickel and dime your parents, or sell some of the mods on here?

I mean..... They're your parents, cut them a deal on the purchase price..... Or give it to them. I'm guessing they've probably spent some coin raising, housing, clothing and feeding you. According to your signature, you've got a few hundred grand tied up in vehicles..... Break a little chunk off for mom and dad. ;)
