It has a hum/drone at speed, anything over 20 mph. It gets louder when I back off the accelerator. Local stealer said repacking the bearings should resolve the drone and I went ahead and OK'd it after they confirmed the bearings look good. Then 2 miles into my drive home, the drone came back. I called the dealer and the SA said "Oh we'll probably need to replace the inner and outer bearings then." Another $420.
My fear now is, is this actually a wheel bearing issue? All the indicators on mud point to rear drive shaft or the u-joint.
Second question, since the stealer was already in there and had the opportunity to replace the bearings and now has to go in again, isn’t that considered double dipping on the labor? Are there any data points for having inner and outer bearings replaced at the dealer?
