Here's the deal: new(rebuilt Toyota) starter was installed about a month ago. This morning, turned the key and heard the dreaded "click" and no start. Four hours later, it starts with no problem! This was the exact reason for getting THIS starter to begin with(even though I knew it may have just been contacts going bad). Did I just get a bad starter, or it there something else going on(perhaps a bad relay of sorts)?

Couple of things come to mind.
* Corrosion on some of the wiring connections?
* Overtorqued the bolts when installing it – can damage it.
* Possibly the NSS – neutral safety switch

If it’s the the NSS, from what I recall you should be able to jumper the starter. It’s been awhile though.

Bad starter and since you had it only for a month, you should be able to return it back to the dealer and get a replacement. The problem you described is a symptom of a bad contacts. Call the dealer and tell them your problem.

Fellas, I think I may be on to something. I noticed that when I unlock my door with my key, my truck won't start; but when I use my keyless entry(aftermarket) remote, it starts up! I repeated this cycle three times in a row and it happened all three times. I hope my keyless system is the problem, being that it appears to be the cheapest fix. I wouldn't have thought this would be related to the starting of the truck since it's only a basic keyless system, and not a security system with ignition kill.

I seem to recall another member posting a similar situation just recently. Conclusion was that it was indeed the secruity system causing the kerfuffle. Not sure what that means about the security system though...don't have one myself.

Could possibly be a bad ground on the starter, but the keyless entry situation is curious. Could be part of the problem or could be coincidence. Hope you get it figured out soon and it doesn't cost you too much.

the LX450 keyless system has a starter cut relay, never have able to confirm is this si the same system as in the LC, but you are hearing the starter clunk but not turn correct? if so not the start interupt relay
RavenTai...I have an aftermarket system(Audiovox). I'll end up just bringing my truck back to Circuit City so they can look at it (and sfix it). I'm 99.9% sure it's related to the keyless system though. Thanks everyone for all the input.
