Seems this is the place to go if I need my winch identified, so here goes:

Anyone? :hhmm:

I have one that is close to that on a old FJ40. Was told when I bought the cruiser it made with a starter from jet engine. There is way to disengage the spool and only powers in. Has a almost home made looking remote. I seen another one lately on a newer FJ40. This one was made with a gear reduction starter. I know mine was made local here in the Phoenix area. There is a plate with a phoenix. I can post pictures of mine in a few days to compare the two.

Pictures of mine.

WOW, they do look very much alike, almost a mirror image. I had someone on the Full Size Jeep forums tell me mine was originally for opening bomb-bay doors on a Bomber.

Is the company that made yours still around?

The motor does look very similar to a larger radial engine starter. Which is plausible other than the 24v system to run them.

I bought this cruiser back in 94 and the winch was already on it. I do doubt the campany is still in business. I think these were more of a backyard made winch. Thinking it was someone using old surplus parts to make these winch. Is your power in only? Mine is. It's not in the picture but on the end of the winch, spool side is a handle to allow the cable to free wheel out. The dash has a four prong trailer light socket. It has a controller that looks home made to operate it. The only time I used the winch was to load the cruiser onto a car hauler when I bought it and it seemed plenty strong. I have never even started this cruiser. Only reason I bought it was because it was a complete factory stop top model and the price was right.:meh:
