Hello house, I will appreciate help to solve the problem on my year 2000 landcruiser V8 ujz100 that just started recently. I have done search on the forum regards this issue but none seen.

Initially vehicle was running smoothly until I have to change the brake pads on all wheels as they have wear done.

after changing the brake pads, I noticed the brakes are holding on its own and the two rear wheels are very hot so I returned the car to the mechanic which he now worked on the calipers. later we discovered that the engine is no longer running smoothly with the CHECK ENGINE, VSC & VTRAC lights on, so I did a scan which gave me codes P0304 & C1201.

Note that the mechanic has checked all 8 plugs and said they are firing OK but seem not to know the next step to follow.

so please house I need help to solve this as it is the only car I have for movement.

thanks.

P0304 is a Cylinder 4 misfire..... Maybe a bad wire or coilpack? Should be easy to figure out.

No idea on C1201... but perhaps it's a by-product of the P0304 code? I'd fix the easy one, clear the codes and drive it for a while to see if the C1201 came back.....

Smart people will hopefully chime in on this thread for you as well!!! :)

Greg, thanks on that, the mech said the coil pack is OK. maybe I should ask him to check for wire cut etc. cleared it and without driving code comes on back

Simple troubleshooting technique would be to swap two of the plug wires and see if the code changes (misfire on different cylinder). If the problem moves... it's the wire. If the problem stays on cylinder #4 it's something else.

It's a cheap way to isolate the problem down to the component level, and doesn't take much time to do.

I have finally solved this issue. the problem is the coil pack on cylinder 4. I interchanged it that is where I noticed it. luckily I have a spare coil pack so I replaced and engine became normal and no more check engine light.

Fire your mechanic! You did a better job figuring it out than he did... :)

Congrats!
