Yes the blue did not come into the US until the introduction of the FJ45LV in '63, Sorry about the repaint I tried to give you a heads up :hillbilly:

Regardless though it is still a beautiful '62 well kept and original. If it was me I would paint the bezel and top the correct Lilly White and then freshen up the existing blue and just enjoy it as is. Very few out there know that the blue isn't a correct color for '62 :beer:

JP, the info I have gathered with a few others is that the correct white color for the older tops and bezel is actual called Ivory Shell T302, and not lilly white.

The attached picture was from someone who found this Ivory Shell info...

How did you come to the Lilly White conclusion?

Until This Post Surfaced....

.....then freshen up the existing blue and just enjoy it as is. Very few out there know that the blue isn't a correct color for '62 and even few who care.

Now he will never be able to take his cruiser out in public....

Hello you guys,,,,,,,,,,,,Yes, it was Clemson Cruiser who made the paint comment but unfortunetly I had already secured the deal with the promise that the cruiser had never been painted. I pretty much figured out that the top and bezel had been painted but who could have imagined that the whole darn cruiser would have been painted when it was BRAND NEW!!! I mean, what are the chances of that, know what I mean. All is good. My gut says to restore it back to it's original glory. Will decide soon and will certainly send along pics. Thanks you guys and for the paint info as well. fjfjfj

... what I would do is paint the bezel, and the top an off white, get a spare and some new 700R15 tires all around, make sure she is safe i.e. brakes, steering, electrical...etc., fix the tranny situation, and start driving it and enjoying yourself :)

This make sense?

^ X2 :)

Drive it man :-) When you are ready to paint and would like the sulfur yellow I used, I can hook you up.

Just caught up on this thread, thanks Dean for all the compliments.

Chris

fjfjfj,
I notice your wipers are like mine, odd that is. Can I ask a favor, can you take a pic from the inside of your rig of your wiper motors? It is my experience on other folks' rigs, that the wiper blades run parallel to eachother, but on mine (and yours it seems) the blades do not. On mine, one of my motors sits "low" and appeared to have been replaced at some point, I just cant tell what it was replaced with! It is a factory equivalent of the original....almost..

thanks - Chris

Their are two different motors. A cruiser I picked up only had one and it was the lower style. I bought a group of three wipers off Ebay and one of those was the lower style. My thinking was these were for a RHD FJ40 and were imported and sold by mistake or :meh:

Or...fix the roof quickly, a quick coat of off white paint on the roof and bezel, and then scratch them up a little with an old chain or something so they don't look so "newly painted" compare to the rest of the '62 :hillbilly:

Then like JP said, just drive it as is for a while...bet no one knows the difference :beer:

QUESTION: I have a crushed in roof on my 1962 fj40. Has anyone ever done extensive fiberglass restore on the roof before? Would like to keep the original of course but want to make sure it is worth fixing. I mean it is caved in 2 feet by 2 feet at least. Thanks for any insight. fjfjfj

If it's anything like my 61 top there is no quick fix unless you replace it. The fiberglass is damaged in the same spot and fiberglass is so old, brittle and the area is soft. I have a spare top to replace mine with. I would have to remove the vent from the bad top and install it in the other top which did not have the vent option. I've have that top since 95 but remember it was off a early FJ40 or FJ25. Twenty years ago I worked at mechancial contractor who had a fiberglass shop in the back. We would do the repairs on the ventilation equipment. The whole area was really nasty. If I needed a top repaired I would being paying some one to do it. Cutting a patch piece out of a later top may or may not be a option. The early tops are more domed.

Hello you guys and again thanks for all of your comments. The cruiser does a rather interesting history, one of 3 in a fleet of hunting cruisers outside of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Am tracking down the original owner who had it for the 1st years from 62 to 65. The guy I bought it from ( who's dad had it for 47 years ) is helping me track him. I have decided to completely restore the cruiser after careful consideration including consideration of all the comments from you guru's. I am basically a rookie compared to you guys but have had 22 Land Cruisers since 1974 and can tell you that I have owned many original painted cruisers and never touched them. LOVED THEM ALL and just left them alone. In fact I love those the best. In this case, I was quite sure that I was getting an all original painted cruiser and of course fell short. My mistake. So,,,,,,,,,,,,I am going to completely restore it. The question is does anyone know EXACTLY what COLOR CHOICES there were in 1962 for the FJ40?? I am not able to get that answer. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place on MUD. I am not 100% sure I want to restore in the white that it was. I actually only like that white after many years of wear ( I had one that was very old and old patina, very very cool looking ) but the new paint in that color I really do not like. So, if someone knows what colors were available besides that white and that green then please let me know. I know my cruiser has history. That history will remain, the story is quite unreal ( just imagine buying a brand new 2012 FJ CRUISER, bringing it home and then taking it to Maaco the next day to get it completely repainted!!!! I am telling you guys, I think that is what happened here, same kind of scenario. Just unheard of actually. I will let you know and THANKS again for all of your insight and expert advice. Very humbled by you guys. fjfjfj

I believe USA options in '62 you had 4 colors to choose from, white, red, tan, and green.... those are the only ones I have seen. I am not sure anyone knows the 100% the correct codes but the prevailing wisdom is:

White= Lilly White T-403
Red= Seminole Red T-332
Green= Judson Green T-453
Tan= Volcanic Biege T-1262

If I am wrong I am sure John or Dean will have the correct info

Good Luck:beer:

Thanks Clemson for this information. Wish I had seen your email regarding the painting of that cruiser, it would have saved me alot of energy and money but,,,,,,,,,,,I love all cruisers and I look forward to restoring this one, look forward to the challenge and plan to start on it immediately so that the project doesn't get put on the shelf. This wonderful 1962 fj has sat along time in the barn. Time to get it out and about. I will do my best on it and will surely be coming to all of you guys for your input. Will attach pics as we progress. Thanks to the suggestion of My wife said no FJ I have already researched and ordered the Yokahama's. Am hoping to hear positive news on that this week. I was also hoping that Vocanic Beige was perhaps one of the colors as I had seen a cruiser painted that color and really liked it. Most likely go that direction with interior seats matching the old ones that are in there now. fjfjfj
