Now you got it! :)

It must feel great knowing you purchased a very nice looking old 40, (one a few of us, including myself, have seriously looked at purchasing ourselves) and I bet you are overloaded with anticipation for it to get home to your place safely, so now you need to just sit back, and wait for it :)

I did have plans for this '62, long term plans, so I hope it will be in a good home, for a very long time

QUESTION: I have a crushed in roof on my 1962 fj40. Has anyone ever done extensive fiberglass restore on the roof before? Would like to keep the original of course but want to make sure it is worth fixing. I mean it is caved in 2 feet by 2 feet at least. Thanks for any insight. fjfjfj

Sulfur Yellow, original color code is in the attached link, but no one can find a modern working code, and you can see it on a newly repainted rig here; https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/459720-moment-truth-coming-near-paint-11.html

Are you thinking of repaint your '62? Did you get it home yet and inspect it?

Hello My Wife Said No FJ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Thanks for the info. Well I have some " not so good news " regarding my long awaited 1962 FJ40. Believe it or not, strange as it may sound, the Land Cruiser was repainted upon new arrival 50 years ago. That is correct, the brand new cruiser was painted to match the other cruisers in a fleet of 3 owned by a hunter. Each cruiser was painted light blue and top was painted orange and grille was painted orange. The cruiser I bought was actually NUMBER 1 ( the decal still on the side of the cruiser ). This original owner ( who had it for just 3 years who then sold it to the family I bought from who had it for 47 years ) PAINTED EVERY SQUARE inch of the cruiser. He even took out the seats and painted underneath them, painted inside the glove box. He did NOT take out the gas tank though but we did. It is white under there. There were other give aways also, some MUD members even mentioned few spots in the interior but I thought perhaps they might have just been touch up kinds of things. I did not know all the cruiser colors back in 1962 so thought light blue might have been a color that Toyota used but,,,,,,,,,,,not so. The cruiser was indeed white when new. So,,,,,since it does not have original paint but has a repaint job that is 50 years old ( truth is stranger then fiction in this case ) and my intention was to clean it up, get it running, get it safe and then drive it in all original form then I think I am going to restore the whole thing. Quite frankly I would NOT have purchased knowing that it had been repainted. Not much interest there. But,,,,,,,,,,in all fairness to the cruiser, it is in wonderful condition ie: NO CANCER RUST at all!! Very straight, no dents, almost everything is there, nothing missing except two front caps and the spare tire. Engine only has 41k ( either 41 or 44k ) on it and it appears to be in great condition. We are spending the next week on the mechanics. So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,What is the MUD SUGGESTION. Complete off frame restore OR just drive it with the very very unusual repaint that just happens to be 50 years old?? Will send more pics soon. FJFJFJ

One other thing you guys. I have emailed the owner that I bought the cruiser from ( The Dad and the son ). I have asked them for the name and /or email of the original owner who had it for the first 3 years and who we assumed painted it. I want to get the story if at all possible. The owner that I bought it from, without question, swore that his father ( the grandfather ) NEVER PAINTED that cruiser, ever. So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,will just find out what I can. Still fun. Like always, still fun. fjfjfj

Oh dear...that is too bad isn't it. You are taking it pretty well, I'd be more than a little upset. I'd like my next 40 to not be a project, and more of a survivor needing preservation...that is if I get lucky enough to find one...

OK, since it is now at your home, what I would do is paint the bezel, and the top an off white, get a spare and some new 700R15 tires all around, make sure she is safe i.e. brakes, steering, electrical...etc., fix the tranny situation, and start driving it and enjoying yourself :)

This make sense?

Yes the blue did not come into the US until the introduction of the FJ45LV in '63, Sorry about the repaint I tried to give you a heads up :hillbilly:

Regardless though it is still a beautiful '62 well kept and original. If it was me I would paint the bezel and top the correct Lilly White and then freshen up the existing blue and just enjoy it as is. Very few out there know that the blue isn't a correct color for '62 and even few who care ;)
