ok 1987 fj60 and the prob I'm getting ready to do a v8 swap but till t hat happens i need to drive the beast and just lately it started i guess you would call it hiccuping. Doesnt do it at any specific time seems to do it more when i let off the accelerator and then accelerate again or under hard acceleration, but it is far from consistent. she burns oil to that one reason for the v8 swap. also it seems to have produced an exhaust leak it seeems on the driver side that when it hiccups it sounds like its under my feet yet i cant find it. Just looking for a bandaid.

sounds like a vacuum leak, but not sure - possibly carb adjustment?

selfish question - are you selling the I-6 when you drop in the V8?
 
most definitely on the selling part like i said the #5 cylinder has oil in it and she leaks out both main seals but she still pulls hard. I can get the compression numbers for you before i pull it if interested. I thought vacuum leak also but did the carb cleaner check and no chnge with the idle and I havent touched the motor in a while a few months
 
What about the fuel filter? how long has that been? I'm just thinking of the "let off the gas, accelerate, or hard accel" issue - might be that the fuel pump slows down, and a clogged fuel filter doesn't flow enough without the pump pushing it to have some in reserve - might account for the same type of issue on accel.
 
yeah did the fuel filter and a mini tune up. Ran the same for a day(s***ty) and then low and behold it fixes itself I am thinking the same on the piece of dirt in the carb even though the fuel filter wasn't as bad as i have seen it. But I wish I knew for sure but it runs now and the 350 is in the shop now getting worked on.

sweet - glad it worked out. Let me know when you do the switch, maybe I'll take the 6 off your hands. I have a crazy idea about building a nice 2F up, seeing what I can do with it (I know, not a lot).
