Im having some major electrical issues with my fj40, mostly runoff from Tuttle. Does anyone have a schematic that I could borrow, I have a book from the parts store but it sucks. Im at about 12 hours trying to fix my brake lights and my wife is about to drive it off a cliff so she can see more of me than my feet.

1974, Thanks

lars,
may have something to do with that rats nest of wires that was hanging under the backside of your 40:D ....i have had the same problem....be methodical...start at the switch on the peddle...got power?...is switch good...then follow em back...mine went down the passenger side frame rail....look for breaks in the wire....do you have a good ground?...are the bulbs good....i have a wiring diagram from an earlier cruiser that may help...you have a pm

Also, just in case your 40 has them, keep in mind that some after market brake lights are wired in reverse - I found that problem in the past. Took awhile to figure that one out.

I am not sure if the 74 has combined turn stop like my 73. If it does then you have stop light power goin thru the turn signal switch.

If any of you ever have you brake lights stay on, check the jam nut on the brake light switch to see if it has come loose and is keeping the brake pedal from coming all the way up.

There are a lot of funky little connections under the rear of an fj40. and the wires are of a rather small gage too.

There is also a conector on the right side of firewall were the harness heads toward the rear of the truck that can cause problems. Also a connector up in the dash, kinda above and in front of the radio, that I have had trouble with.

Gude Luck, Don P.

Thanks everyone. I am taking the day away from it and will hit it hard tomorrow.
