Hi,
I have a 1HZ (4.2lt naturally aspirated diesel) on my 2002 HZJ105R.
The gauge cluster was cleaned out recently and when it was refitted the temperature gauge read between quarter of the gauge and cold.

Now it reads between quarter ways up and center during normal driving after the first attempt to correct it. the black line represents the current position.

However when I drive on the highway the gauge reads a fraction below center (like it was before). pic below.

The AC works fine and there doesn't seem to be signs of over heating. The coolant levels are normal. no oil in the coolant.
Has anyone had a similar problem?
Would greatly appreciate your help.
thanks

Hi Oshan, and welcome to Mud.
I don't have any experience with your specific problem, but generally, when the thermometer shows the wrong temp, it's the sensor or meter which is faulty. It would be fairly easy to screw in a sensor for an external thermometer to check the real temp, and take it from there. The FSM also specify how to measure the sensor resistance.

This forum is generally not the best for diesel cruisers, when it comes to engine related matters. And a 105 is exotic. The Aussie LCool, or even the UK landcruiserclub, would be better. Here on mud, there is the diesel tech thread though, where you find a few older 1HZs.

Btw, Sri Lanka is one of the most beautiful countries on this planet.

Dear uHu,

thank you so very much for the tips.
what you say makes perfect sense. will get the temperature checkout using and take it from there.
plan to take the cruiser out in to some wild areas over the weekend and this keeps bothering me.

warm regards,
Oshan
