I've started my front bumper build and I have a Superwinch EP9.0 with a drum length of 9". I purchased a Slee hawse fairlead with an opening of 7.25". However, now that I'm mocking things up, I see that there is a potential problem with the difference between the length of the drum and the opening in the hawse fairlead
I want to keep the bumper from sticking out too far, and right now the plan was to mount the hawse fairlead as close to the winch as possible. The face of the hawse fairlead sits about 1/2" away from the front vertical plane of the winch (measured from the front feet). I think the winch cable will potentially bunch up if I don't move the hawse further away from the winch, which I really don't want to do. A quick search shows that Viking has a hawse fairlead ($$$ - Viking 360) which seems to have a 9" opening to match that of the 9" drum length of the Superwinch Husky 8 and 10.
I guess the question is; Is the 7.25" opening on the Slee hawse fairlead wide enough for my 9" wide drum being that close?
[Edit]. Ordered the Viking 360 from Sierra Expeditions. Will post pics of my bumper build here...
