I took the air intake off in order to clean the TB and it came in two pieces. Is the air intake hose supposed to do this? I cannot get it back on because the connection points are flared out and do not slip in.

Help me!

I did the exact same thing about 4 months ago. Searched and searched, and did not find a solution beyond replacement. Got quite frustrated trying to reassemble those two pieces.

Looked a bit for used replacement without a lot of luck. Then just ordered a K&N because it was close to the same price as an OEM replacement and I could get it on Amazon in 2 days.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping there was some tip in order to reconnect it. It's strange how cleanly it came apart but won't go back in.

I ended up sanding down the edges of the flares so it would at least butt up together and be driveable in the meantime. I'll probably end up replacing it with the OEM part (you're right: about $300 online) since I hope to put a snorkel on one day.

Just in case someone else tries searching in the future, I'm putting some tags: Part number 17875-50190, PIPE, INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR, air intake hose, throttle body cleaning.

By the way this was the TB condition.

It wasn't idling rough but I wanted to do it for preventative maintenance. I now notice my car idles forward faster when releasing the brake. I never realized it was slow before.

Some duct tape should work temporarily and be a bit safer...

Just a question, how many miles did you have on your truck to make your TB that "dirty"?

I'm going to try to epoxy it together before I order the part. It has 174,000 miles.

You might think of re-mounting both parts to get their position as close as possible. Then taping the parts together...gaffers tape imo is better than duct tape for what you're doing. Finally, carefully remove the assembly and do final sealing with either a flexible plastic epoxy or Permatex/NAPA "ultra gray" silicone.

I definitely would consider that v. dropping $300 on another assembly (unless you're feeling spendy)...K&N wouldn't even be on my list of possibilities.

You might also think about gently heating the part with the lip in an oven set to 170F or so and seeing if that might help you manipulate the lip back in place.

I tried all of those. Even used a heat gun to try to manipulate the pieces back together. In the end, I didn't trust a silicone and tape job not to leak long term, and lets face it, most people here don't fix things permanently with tape and glue.

Allow me to repeat myself, the K&N was the only thing that could get here quickly, and I don't have any near future plans for a snorkel. It works fine. Is it any better than factory? No. Somewhere down the line, I'm sure I'll find a used part and then put my K&N on craigslist.

try plastic weld adhesive - it'll chemically start to melt both sides of the plastic, which then fuses solid.

Update: I was able to snap it back it. I sanded down the flares just a little on one side, used a heat gun and got one piece pliable enough to set it in place. Then with a tapping block and rubber mallet I tapped until I heard it snap back in and sit flush. I then used the heat gun again and cleaned up the edge with a flathead screwdriver.

Good as new...

I'm sorry HFDPNL didn't have have as much luck. Probably just broke a little differently.

How did you open the butterfly? Is there a cable, did you pry it, or did you remove the entire throttle body to clean it?

You can open the butterfly by pushing on it with your finger (or toothbrush) while cleaning. I did not take the whole throttle body off.
