I'm trying to design my trailer to be the same width as my TJ. I know the TJ axle width is 60.75, but when adding brakes to the TJ AND the trailer axle I can't find those measurements. Can anyone help?
thanks

Just measure the hubs face to face on the existing axle, and suppltyt that dimension to the axle supplier.

If your using the same wheel (same offset?) you should be fine. Also verify that the bolt pattern on the brake axle is the same as the Jeep's wheels, and the rims you are planning to use on the trailer.

I ordered my axle at 56" wms<->wms and added 2" spacers so I could use stock wheels. The center hole on all oem TJ wheels ( except the steel ones) is not big enough to fit over a trailer axle hub, so you have to use spacers or modify the wheels.

Also, I am not sure if this is what you are asking, but adding brakes does not affect the width of a "normal" 3500 pound axle.

Yes I was mostly concerned how the brakes affect the measurements. I'm using steel wheels so not worried about the hub. Looks like the frame will be 43" wide (about the same as a TJ)
56 is narrower than the Jeep axle- how'd you end up with that?

Also,
Anyone know offhand the thickness of the drum? I assume the axle spec width of 60.5" does not include the drum?

That 60.5" figure for TJs includes the brakes (does not matter if it is a drum or disc brake axle)

I needed 2" spacers to mount the wheels I wanted, so I ordered the axle at 56" so that with the spacer 2" each side my total width would be 60" (the width I wanted)

Thanks guys. I just have to figure out now if the trailer brakes add width (for the future)

No they dont , just order your axle with the 4 bolt flange for mounting the backing plate and you can add brakes (bolt on job) later down the road.
When you mount the drum it replaces the idler hub (hub and drum is one piece )that would be on the trailer w/o brakes
