OK, I am flying with out a net. I decided to replace the seals and gaskets in my 3 speed tranny/ t-case. When disassembling the trans from the t-case the PTO gear fell out before I could tell which way it goes:crybaby::crybaby:.

Does anybody know which way this gear (PTO straight cut) goes back in? There appears to be a 2mm difference from one side to the other.

So my ? is does the longer side face the tranny or does the longer side face rear ward?

Thanks for any help/info.

Long side towards the front, IIRC.

Ahhh Haaa, so now I wonder if Seth_O recalls correctly? I guess its a 50-50 shot. Better then guessing, though.

No worries.
I think I'll try the long side to to the front and see how well the gears match up, if they match up good, then great, if they could have better contact then I'll try it the other way around. Seems to me that the PTO gear does not move foward or back and niether does the idler gear so it should be pretty easy to figure out, but i figured I would ask. If somebody knows it will save some time but either way its all fun and games, right?

As it turns out, unless i'm running something on the PTO it does not matter its just taking up space! The gear does not actually match up to anything, it just spinning on the shaft! I was told that alot of these t-cases didnt even have that gear installed but just a spacer instead.
