Hey ONSC,

Hopefully this thread is in the right place.

So my name is JJ and i just bought me a '78 FJ40. Haven't seen it yet since i'm in Afghanistan, but have been told it's in pretty good condition. Now with that being said, do any of you know where i can take my rig or rather have my rig sent to have it looked at to so what problems i may have with it? In the Hickory area would be the best for me. I'm from Atlanta, but my mother and my sister and her family lives in Hickory.

I'm moving to Dobson next September when i'm done in this hell hole to go to school for viticulture/enology (grape growing/wine making).

Maybe this is a bit sac religious, but didn't really buy the FJ for offroading, to be honest i've never been offroading. I'm a city boy!:)

I served for 6yrs in the AF, got out and started working for Lockheed Martin doing surveillance work for the Army. Basically i look for the bad guys and the Army does the rest.

Any advice about my new ride or comments would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, i filled out a form on your website to access the forums there, but still not letting me in. Maybe it's only for members.

Welcome JJ! I'll let the guys closer to that are speak up, but we're not all hard core wheelers, but we love our Landcruisers. You're in the right place, and we'll get you fixed up on the website.

Hi JJ,

Welcome. For a "city boy" you sure are planning to move a long way out of the city. ;)

Out of curiosity, if you didn't buy the 40 for offroading, what got you interested in it?

Anyway, like Brian, I can't recommend a shop in the Hickory area, but we do have members in that vicinity that might be able to comment.

Post up pics when you can. Good luck in Afghanistan.

Really..... In most big cities i've lived in fj40's are urban cruisers for looks and feel. In good nic they fetch a handsome dollar out in LA.

Anyway welcome and keep safe till you get back.

If Statesville is close enough to the Hickory, I have been with a Mechanic there for about 20 years. He pulled my motor and did a top end and then stored it for two years while I restored the rest of it. I would consider Scott a pretty stand up person. Well he does stand up about 6'6". If you want to get it to him, let me know and I can be there and tell him what he needs to know. I am not part of this group "yet". Maybe some Christmas money will come my way so I can join. I have met a couple of the guys for various reasons. I read alot, just don't have much to say.
The place goes by two names... Either J&J Towing or Scott's Automotive.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, I saw that thing in Winston CL. That is a good crusier to start with. I remember it had some shady work done to the inside though. No prob, you'll get it the way you want it.
Welcome to the JOYANITY!:D
