Hello!
I'm somewhat new here - long time listener first time caller. Located in Redmond, WA (near Seattle) and I have had my '05 LX470 for nearly 6 years and just starting to do some light (pun) modifications.
1) Did HID low beams and fogs. Went through a local company (HIDkitPros.com) and cost me about $500 installed. I know I could have done it for half the price myself, but I sat around with the kits for too long without the time to do it myself so I just paid to have it done.
2) for $20 I put in new back up lights from the same shop and they made a HUGE difference. Very easy to do myself.
3) New Tires and Wheels. Wheels: Moto Metal MO971. Tires: BFG KO2 275/70R18. I wanted tires that would stick out the wheel well about 1/2" - 1" and this setup did that. But I get some rub. After reading many posts I did not expect any rub, but I think this could be due to the wheel offset. Pictures of the rub below when doing a 90 degree turn. They also rubbed when on the freeway and I went over a small bump in the road.
Since I have less than 10 miles on the tires - should I swap for smaller tires, or try to make them work? Not sure what would be needed to make them work though.
Little more about me and my possible plans down the road:
- A family car: We ski a ton, take long trips to California, Colorado (ski), drive forest roads, haul a utility trailer, and occasionally use as a redneck tractor pulling out a stump or moving a large rock
- We have a huge 2400sqft shop out back that I am thinking of putting a lift into (mod get together?)
- Would be interested in meeting/joining locals for meet-ups
- Used to have Nitto Terra Grapplers (285/60R18) on the stock wheels. They lasted nearly 70K and never gave me a problem and would recommend. Just thought I would try something new with the BFG's this time.
- I may add two small light bars on either side of the license plate if I don't do a bumper
- May remove the running boards when my 5 year old is old enough to not need them
- Add rear fog/back off lights to the rear
Couple more pictures of the wheel/tire combo if anyone is interested.
