When somebody figures out how to quiet down the ABS pulsing in any car, then Toyota will make sure the next LC gets the quiet version. Crawl control was designed for use in extreme terrain, not what you pictured above. Crawl control is self explanatory, controls the crawling. You wont appreciate it going through pebbles, cuz thats not what it was meant for.

This is where crawl control was meant to be used on:

As for quadra trac II, its mechanically and electronically controlled system. You get to hear the pulsing of abs in them to. Quadra Trac II shifts power to the front or rear, whatever needs traction. Then the brakes grab the spining wheel to transfer power to the wheel thats not spining. Much similar to the A-Trac system. The LandCruiser has Torsion center differential, as does the V8 4Runner, LX470/570, GX 470.

The pictures above were nothing compared to the trials I was on. Taking pics was the last thing on my mind, so I snapped a few at the end. The rocks you pictured are small compared to boulders protruding from the ground. Even with the pic posted, hearing undercarriage scrapping is important, which the CC creates an overbearing sound. I'm sure I'll get myself somewhere stuck where I will appreciate it someday...

Crawl control is really designed to give maximum traction, while helping aid climbing slowly over obstacles. It is up to the driver to steer the vehicle and choose the line he/she is confident about. I've used this feature, it does as advertised. Its actually my very favorite feature ever. I like the way it works.
