Hello all, just saying hello. I have poked around a couple of times in the past several years (have owned three previous Jeeps and used to spend a lot of time on several forums) but have recently registered as I should be taking possession of a 10/99 100 series in the next few days.

I am excited about this vehicle, but it will take a lot of work as it has sat out in the weather with the d/s rear quarter panel glass broken, and the p/s front window down and has been rained in many times over the course of about 11 months, and has a lot of dust and contaminants currently residing in the interior.

The vehicle is a one owner vehicle, and I am told it has 80k-90k miles (currently has a dead battery so I was not able to verify this). The leather has been rained on and is currently nasty, but does not have any tears or rips, so I believe that reconditioning should be attainable, with a little patience (and a lot of leatherique).

I am also told there is a binding issue while driving, when turning. I am assuming this is a CV shaft issue, but I have not been able to get under the vehicle yet. Other than those issues, I was told the vehicle is in decent shape.

Did a quick search and it appears the 2000 model eliminated the factory rear locker option (that pretty much sucks) and introduced a failure-prone transmission. The transmission issue should not be too hard, my wife drives a 2001 Sequoia and we had the trans go at 158k (3 months ago). So I am familiar with the swap (just add in a transfer case and another driveshaft and repeat procedure). The transmission jack is sitting in the garage looking bored so with my luck, the transmission on this thing will go out too.

Anyways, looking forward to learning more about the land cruiser. Should be a fun vehicle to wrench on and to wheel!

Wow, you've got your work cut out for you - I look forward to copying all your interior fixup tricks!

Have fun!

As far as plans, I honestly have no idea. Definitely work on it and drive it until I feel it is mechanically solid, at the point, maybe sell it or just keep if having a 3rd vehicle is feasible.

I went from a Camry to an E39 M5 in december of 2011 which is my daily driver now. (After some work of course) and I have contemplated putting her up for sale, as paying for premium fuel and using it simply for my daily commute seems like a waste of a nice car.

I would LOVE another Moab trip, this time with the family. (I was able to make 2 trips in 2005 & 2006 with a TJ Rubicon) This seems like the perfect vehicle to do it in. So I can foresee keeping her for a couple of years and doing some nice wheeling.

Time will tell, but I am looking forward to tearing into her and getting her back to normal. Part of what I enjoy is working on vehicles, so my fun starts, hopefully this weekend!

I'll post up some before pics and try and explain what all I do on her. If you guys are interested (and bored) here is a link to the M5, and this thread shows some of what I did on her. http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39-m5-e52-z8-discussion/208755-has-begun.html

(Sorry for the multiple posts, the app isn't letting me edit a post correctly)

I will pull the headliner and sunroof cassette here soon, it is still stuck and that is quite annoying. I should be able to free it up outside of the vehicle.

Also pulling all the stick-on wood trim, most of it is destroyed anyway.

Wow. Looks like another Gunney build. Nice start.

you cant edit until you reach 25 posts or something like that

I don't know who or what a gunney is, but thank you.

Ran out of time (school & work are killing me) but I should be able to get back on her in a few days.

The battery light kicked on when I was driving her to the house (the second I hit the cruise control power button the light kicked on, coincidence? Or random failure, I don't know). I checked and she definitely isn't charging, the fuses on the positive terminal are good, probably time for a new alternator anyways.

These are the first steps to getting her back to "stock" condition and reliable enough to be a DD. That is the short term goal, she has sat for about 8 months, being rained in and what not caused a ton of leaves everywhere, and dirt and grime all under the carpet. Going to soak the carpet in cleaner and pressure wash the mess out of it before reinstalling. The seats will be wiped down and SOAKED in leatherique for days as well.

Also (I posted under the rear spoiler removal thread) if anyone has a cheap black or beige rear wind deflector they want to get rid of, please let me know. This one is missing the wing itself, the mounts are still there.

Wow!
Can't wait to see what you do with it....

Where did you find this truck and why was it abused so badly?
Poor thing

Hello and welcome,

Curious what you got this project for? It looks like a lot of work/fun. I'll bet that when you get this up and working it will be your favorite. My son has an jeep Cherokee and they are not even in the same planet of quality.

Actually I approached someone here locally about purchasing his M5, and then the whole thing turned into me acquiring this Land Cruiser. He had several vehicles that were not running, among them a 2001 Porsche 911, BMW 750iL, a jaguar, a BMW M5, and the Land Cruiser. We are working a deal for the LC that involves me getting all his cars in working order and ending up with the LC.

TLC, I had a YJ, an XJ (Cherokee) and a TJ Rubicon. It will be hard pressed to best the Rubicon as my favorite wheeler, but I'm willing to give her a shot.

The Rubicon had a full cage, 5 point harnesses, long arm kit (and of course lockers). We did Moab twice and loved it.

get that hundy up and running, add a few mods, and she'll run Moab no problem.

and grats on the find! I bet you got a good deal (wish I could run across a relatively inexpensive hundy project).

welcome to MUD!
