What type of Hella 4000's would you recommend for the 2 mounting tabs on the ARB bumper on a 80 Series?

euro beam?
cornering?
pencil?
or
fog?

It depends where are you going to drive...

Agreed that you need to realistically evaluate what area you need to illuminate. Hella's website has illustrations of all the beam patterns. Pencil beams are generally for off-road racing. You may want to consider running two different patterns controlled by separate switches - maybe a cornering beam and Euro beam.

I'd get one driving/euro and one cornering/fog for one shining long distance and another shining up close.

Ideally(sp) if you want true fog lights you should have them mount in/under the bumper. So it would be more like assisting the low-beams, IMHO!

BTW, I would get the 4000's and do the HID conversion down the road if the halogens do not prove enough ooomph for you. ;)

Good luck!!

I agree. Hella 4k with a hid kit will blow you away.

I have 2 euro beams on my rig and I like the a lot.

Well heck! So many options. I do have access to a pair of Hella 4000s with the fog beams for $80.00. Does not include the wiring kit. Is that a killer price for these? Should I hold out for a set that have the beams that can throw the light further down the road? The OEM lights on the 80 have Slees' wiring upgrade for hi and low beams and also have the Toshiba high and low beam buld upgrade as well. When flicking on the high beams, they really throw out heaps of light in the vicinity so not sure if the Hella fogs would be redundant.

Holy Crap thats an AMAZING deal. I just bought a set of Halogen 4000s for my truck for about $250 and I still have to get harnesses.

Overland Journal did a comprehensive test of these lights pitted against the likes of PIAA, KC, IPF Lightforce and other big names and out of the halogens, they were by far the best. They compared light output, pattern, air tightness, and overall build. Looking at the pattern they put out, the euro beam seems more than adequate for what Im looking for.

As I understand you have to modify the predrilled holes a bit on the ARB because the Hellas are a little big. Theres a good thread about it if you look under the SEARCH function.

I also read that article in Overland Journal and my suspicion of PIAA's was confirmed by the review. The PIAA's that came with my 80 when I bought it are cheap lamps. The housings are thin metal with low quality retaining rings. The blue bulbs are overrated and the wiring connectors are average quality. I am not an expert at all with these lamps but am dissapointed to see a company like PIAA charging so much $ for an average quality lamp. For about same cost, you can buy HELLA or IPF which lead the Euro and Asian markets with high design and superior quality.
