Hi guys, goldchaser from oz here,I sourced a chevy hei for my fj60 and changed the gear over ,no problems with the gear repositioned it on the shaft, ran a relay switching off the old ignition wire and the power wire off the positive on the battery, new cap, rotor, leads, module, coil, ran great for a month, then one morning a few weeks back started missing badly then died about a minute later,I still had the original coil, cap etc that came with the distributor, put that on swapping coils modules etc,it had somehow buggered the cap and coil, module was ok.

So ive been running it for about 3 weeks now with the old cap and coil and its been running fine, then this morning it developed a bad miss,it was instant also,I could not feel it getting worse over a couple of days or anything like that, same as first time, its still running this timt though, swapped modules this arvo and no difference, looks like coil again and prob cap, these parts down under are not easy to come by so I havent got any more spare coils or caps to try at the moment.

this really has me buggered I dont know what is going on,if any of you guys have any idea or experienced similar probs please let me know,im dumfounded.

cheers fellas.

Me ?

I'd take it to a competent mechanic who has an old type ignition scope (that can do COC ??? or is that CIC ???) and have the ignition analyzed.

COC - coil on cap ???
or
CIC - coil in cap ???

To many variables here to figure out without some electronic sleuthing.

HTH,
Cahil

P.S. While your at it ... use the scope to check the spark plug wire KV too. Heck there are a ton of tests that can be done with a good scope. HTH.
