The bitter Sydney winter (down to almost 8 degrees celcius!!:D ) is requiring the use of heater.

However, despite turning it all the way up, the temperature is simply dismal, even after running for over an hour. There is an obvious difference, between either end of the slider temp range, however, hot is anything but.

The radiator, thermostat and housing were all replaced at the start of the year so I don't see that being a problem in any way.

Any suggestions as to what the problem could be and how to solve it?

All the linkages in the engine bay seem to be operating ok as is the back of the in cab temperature panel.

Looking forward to you replies before my bollocks become the size of raisins!

There is a heater radiator in the heater box that can fill up with crud
Disconnect the 2 in/out heater hoses where they penetrate the firewall and stick the garden hose in there.
Work it out so the flush is in reverse.
The heater works ok in our climate but the demister is average.
Mine can blow warm air in 5-10 minutes.
Is your heater fan blowing lots of air?

If you have a strong push of air through the vents, then there's no way the hot coolant is getting to the heater core, because the air in my BJ70 will become painfully hot after only 5-6 minutes. As Rosco says, check for blockages in the hose leading to the firewall, is the hose hot?...is the main return hose to the radiator hot?; also double-check that linkage.

BTW, expect some ribbing from the Alberta guys....8C is swimming weather there.

Moose is right, 8 celcius is normal for July.

How is the heat in the rear heater?

I'm guessing low coolant. 70s are famous for it. After you take Rosco's advice fill the hose to the top before you reattach it. Before you back flush the heater core though, fill it with a 50/50 mix of muriatic acid and water and let it sit for a few minutes. Flush it out real good and you'll be golden

Yeah, I thought you'd like the "cold" comment ;p

Rear heater???? I wish!

Coolant is fine, and as the radiator was installed by a pro, I would assume that it is all ok.

I'll go and give the flush method a go and see what happens.

Cheers lads

Ok, hoses and valve all checked and all are fine.

Reverse flushed and the water ran clear from the start. Do I need to hose for longer? Flushed it for a minute with normal garden hose, with high pressure setting.

I didn't try any acid (none close to hand and no time). Could that make the difference?

The return hose is certainly hot so heated water is certainly moving through without issue.

The strength of the fan is strong.

Hmmph!

You may have a heater that is blocked hard and the water is just passing over the top.
Maybe time to gat out the muratic acid ,I think its what we called spirit of salts or hydrochloric acid

When you slide from hot to cold is there any change in the airflow?
I was wondering if the vents are directing air across the heater;)

Little change in airflow when changing temps.

Will look into the acid test tomorrow.;)
