Heat Control Valve

How do I figure if mine is sticking. I think this was the 'pop' that I felt in the gas pedal as my rpms corrected itself.

Some carb cleaner on the linkage and lube it up?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but heater control valve(firewall) shouldnt have any effect on the gas pedal or the feeling on it while driving
