I've searched and came up empty...believe me, I searched because I did not want to ask such a question as this...

I had a low beam headlight burn out and figured I'd get something a little better than the factory stuff, so I went and picked up some Sylvania Silver Star bulbs (all four).

I go to pop out the old and put in the new and yikes! It's tight back there. And the coolant overflow bottle removal is not intuitive!

Is it easier to remove the whole bezel from the grill side? Is there a trick to doing them from the engine bay (like get a 5 year-old with skinny hands)?

I was especially shamed when the FSM didn't even address coolant bottle removal or headlamp replacement....other than to just say "replace headlamp". Duh...

TIA

It's not easier to remove the whole bezel. As for the coolant bottle, I just grab both sides of it, and pull up....you may rock it a little bit back and forth, but it'll come loose.

:) I wondered the same thing first time I did it....

Yup best method I know of  . Unfortunately my son is only 1 so I'm hoping my bulbs hold on for 4 more years. :D

On a side note, unless those Silverstars are the genuine European models (which they are not, if you are in the USA, unless you mail ordered them), they won't be any better than stock, based on the reviews and information in the 'lighting' thread in the FAQ.

I've got big hands and arms, but was able to reach them fine when I removed the resevoir (just lift it up). For the driver side, you'll need to remove the battery, especially if you still have the OEM Panasonic or similar sized one in there.

Thanks guys. I was hoping beyond hope there was some secret....well, I guess there was - the coolant bottle!!

Thanks again,

The first time I changed mine out, I was starting to take the whole headlight assembly apart (insert self slap here), until I figured out that all it takes is about a 1/3 of a turn on the back light housing and they pull right out. Not much to it. I don't even think you need to remove the washer bottle IIRC. Battery sides a little tighter. As always, keep your nappy fingers off the bulb :D.

Rookie2

I ran a couple hundred miles Thursday night. Maybe the old bulbs were just getting yellow, but these bulbs were a huge improvement over what I had. Much whiter light and much better coverage.

Thanks again for the responses,
