What kind of headers are you SBC guys running in a 40 engine compartment ? I am thinking Hooker ceramic coated block huggers, but have not ordered yet. I also have a set of rams horns. What do the boy's say ?

blockhuggers work well, there are a couple of different styles depending on the collector setup. some are 2 and 2, some are 4 in a row. i like the doug's headers a lot. top notch quality and parts fit. some of the headers may end you up with interferrance issues depending on what style engine mounts you're using.

personally, i like ram horn manifolds. they NEVER leak and you still get plenty of power. you can buy them new from A1 auto ( online ) for about $150 a pair. also, you'll never have interferrance issues with them. i've even used them on vortec swaps.

Hi All:

Yep, everyone I know you runs a SBC in a 40 Series uses the "rams horn" type exhaust manifolds, because they fit so well.

One friend replaced a pair of "over the (frame) rail" headers with the rams horn manifolds and was very pleased with the result.

One thing to remember about headers is they do not hold in the heat as well as cast exhaust manifolds. I have a header on the 2F in my '40 and needless to say my feet are rarely cold while driving that rig! :hillbilly:

Good luck!

Hey Alan,
So what did your friend like about the change over to cast manifolds? I actually like the headers on my rig. Has good power, sounds great, and has enough low end torque. But I don't like the muffler-sliders too much.
I'd be afraid off loosing the good stuff if I went to cast manifolds. So it worked out well for your buddy?
B.
