Headed to the tunnel 13 Monday 3/23

My dad wants to walk the train tunnel 13 on Mt Ashland tomorrow. Figured it'd be a good way to get the kids out of the house on Spring Break and maybe find some snow if anyone wants to tag along. Probably leave Medford around noon.

Tunnel 13 is pretty cool and real easy to get to. There is a old book about it you can sometimes find in used book stores. Last train robbery in Oregon was in that tunnel IIRC.

How'd it turn out? It's a really neat close area with some interesting history for sure! If I didn't have work I would have been there for sure.

I recollect the train "robbery" involved dynamite and death at the south portal of the tunnel.

Well yeah. They decided to blow the tunnel to stop from getting caught, but set it off while they were in there.

Last time it caught fire it smoldered for months as all the oil soaked wood to keep from rotting just slowly burnt.
