I have a 90 surf with a 3L 2.8 diesel. Recently I found out I will need a new head and the engine is at the machine shop. I came across a 5L head and have been told it will bolt up just fine. My question is which headgasket should I use? A 5L or 3L headgasket? It seems the 5L headgasket has a larger bore than the 3L and not sure what’s preferred. If I use the 3L headgasket with the 5L head the valves seem like they will be very close to the headgasket, which I am not sure if that matters. However if I use the 5L headgasket on the 3L block the headgasket bore will be larger than my 3L pistons. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
