Has it been done to a 60 series?

No, running leaves works great with volvo portals..

Not that i have seen. I dont see why you would have to swap to coils. It would just be as easy to weld on spring perches since ya have to do it on SOA anyway. Should be rather easy to set up. I rather see someone get a hold of a set of 80s axles and links and set a 4 link up on a 60. I think with all the after market support with cruiser axles now I think you can build a cruiser axle to be just as strong or stronger. I will be 4 linking the rear of Velveeta after CMCC this year and wish I had a full floater 80 series to do it with, plus the added help of already having brackets set up for 4-link...yeah yeah yeah i know peter had already done it but its not air bagged and using some super sized tires..

But for shear ground clearence that is a sick axle...

Actually it would be best to run it SUA. It will keep axle wrap to a minimum..

Although you would still need a track bar in the front and rear.
I don't remember the name of the dude that did a 55 with volvo portals but it was sick..

Happy new year @&@&@&@&ers :flipoff2:

I'm thinkging about the power in a stocker 60 or freeway driving.
Course, this may or may not be an issue if it's a trail rig.

Those Pinzgauers hover around 85 HP anyway. Could be something to think about.

.

Sigh...

Look at the gearing..

Mace, I found the FJ55 link http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=214232

Mace does this ring a bell too?
["You will be too tall, I reccomend that you switch to a set of FJ60 axles and get rid of the portals.
Actually I have as et of 60 axles sitting here that I would do you a favor and trade you for those portals."]

Looks like I now have a little more direction to go on.
I'ld love to see the underbelly of that 55 to see how the springs are set up on the axles.

I've got the OME 4" reversal so a SOA would be a little too high. For portals it would be just right.

LOL

Yep :D

@&@&@&@&er wouldn't trade either..

:D

 Like I said... freeway. Not low speed.

The pinzgauer has a 2.25 to 1 hub spur and 2.85 to one axle drive diff.

Max speed is listed at 62mph. Now, is the speed limitation because of the portals, the dynamics of the vehicle or the engine/trans.? That's something we need to know if we're thinking about this axle mod, along with axle width, shock mounts, coils/springs, etc.

Besides, these things are independent half axles, right?
Therefore, the center of the axle must be affixed and located by some sort of center chassis or truly elaborate diagonal bracing system from the center of the diff to each side of the landcruiser chassis. Or you need to put a solid crossmember right under the oil pan.

How will the axle support the vehicle otherwise?

I don't see this as workable.

goober i was saying that either way you would have to weld spring perches on like a SOA, if it was SUA or SOA you would still need to weld perches on below or above the axle :flipoff2: :princess:

Power with 6.something:1 gearing would be fine on the highway with 40" tires or so ;)

I had forgotten that the pin axles were independant. Not insurmountable but certianly not the best place to start.

And low :flipoff2:

I would look for a guy in Canada, he calls his truck tippy or something like that...I wanna say he ran 80 axles and the coils for some period of time...sorry I couldn't be more help...also Green Pig or something like that on pirate ran portals on his 55 before he sold it...he is in WY....
