80 and 100 series coming on the market? All of a sudden I see loads of the for sale and the prices have come down. How do I know this? Well I have been looking almost everyday for the past year so I am familiar with what prices have been. Could this be due to the scare of rising gas prices and the economy not getting any better?
I think it is.

With gas prices slated to be at $4.00 a gal by Memorial Day, I think a lot of people are thinking twice about a vehicle that gets 12-13 mpg on a good day.

Mileage doesn't matter to me. I bought a house 8 miles from work on purpose....and I'm walking distance from the light rail in case fuel does get nuts. So...bring on the 100's!! My wife wants one and I want her 80!

I have, I was just telling some guys up here the very same thing. I remember nice 80's for $7000, then they went to over $10000, now they are back down again. Just a cycle I guess, but maybe the gas has something to do with it. That's why I am looking at that LS1 FJ60, it gets 19 mpg on the hwy.:) If that falls through, I will at the least be installing the TPI fuel injection in a month. That should be good for another 65 HP and a couple MPG's.

Oh and maybe the fact that know one has found any jobs yet. I hear this year will blow last year out of the water for foreclosures again. I hope no one is looking for the house prices to rebound anytime in the next 5 years.

For example. I just found a 98' 100 series with 113,000 miles in pretty good shape for $13000+. I probably could buy it for around $11,500. 6 months ago it would have been $16,000.
The job market is not getting any better and the housing market will get much worse. It ticks me off when the Obama administration goes on TV staying we have an increase in jobs and things are getting better. That was just a couple weeks ago. i told my wife then that was a lie and it was because new info cam out about 1 week after Obama made those stupid statements proving he was wrong.
Let me stop. Those people get me fired up.

I don't mind paying for gas for local driving as much, but keep in mind that a wheeling trip now cost $100.00 in gas, or more if you are pulling a trailer!!

Just remember, unemployment always goes down in December!!

I drive A LOT!!! That is one reason why I haven't bought anything yet. Right now I drive my fathers diesel Jetta that gets 45 mpg. No car payment and awesome gas mileage is starting to make me rethink these SUV's.

Don't rethink! Buy one! You won't regret it:)

I may not regret having a 100 but I will regret a $200 gas bill every week. You forget. I have 3 kids and a wife and 2 restaurants 1 hour apart. I get up easy tot get the kids to school then run around for my business, work then sometimes I drive to my other restaurant.
LOTS of driving.
When I had my truck , which gets the same gas mileage as the 100 I spent $2,000 in gas in just one month!!!! That's just stupid.

Even with diesel being more than gas, it's still a good deal.
I never liked diesels much when I was turning wrenches. They were noisey and dirty.
They have come a long way. I would love to have one (truck or van) now.

Wow, that is crazy. The most I can put on in a month is like 3,000-4,000 miles. That has to be like 7,000 miles, even if gas was $3.50 like it was before.:eek:

That is when gas was $4.00 per gallon. I was driving back and forth to both restaurant several times a day. It wore me ragged. It's about 100 miles round trip 4-5 times a day.

For some reason everyone keeps brinign up prices on 100s, but when I was looking 4+ years ago I could have gotten several 99-01 100s with 130 is miles for $10K or less some with mods.
I do think the economy still stinks, but shop around and deals are out there if you are serious and willing to travel. We are still loving our 80, but i do wish MPG were more. I may actually take the lift off and go back down to stock tires on the next set since its my wifes DD now.

Get yourself a leaf from Nissan and put 240chargers at each restaurant (could be a pull get a BBQ and a recharge) and all in town electric operation no gas bill just tons more co2 from producing the electric at the coal fired stations. Woops wrong bunch to be too green around!!!:whoops::cheers:Anyway

Then run the runs into the mts in the 80 and 100 40's or whatever you've got at the time. But the idea of 80 or 100 for daily driver in high mileage i'm with ya not bright but I want one too!

Well I am thinking of just getting an 80 and rigging it as a fun vehicle and keep driving my fathers Jetta. He doesn't use it anyway.
The 40 was fun but it was a pain to trailer to trail runs with the club and wasn't kid friendly. I thick the 80 has all the creature comforts I need and is affordable.
There is one on Daniel Island I was suppose to go look at but it has 177K lies and is not locked for $8K. I would rather find one that is locked.

I'll look also, I check craigslist almost every day, I'll just do an 80 search, also.

No need David. I look on Craigslist, Auto Trader and EBay almost daily.
Thanks though.
