I’m in the market for a rooftop tent and really like the Hardshell style. I like the A- frame look of the CVT and Roofnest. These setup really fast. With a rear ladder on the rear tire carrier of the 60 should be able to get in through the rear of the tent also. Does anybody have any input/ experience with these or other brand hardshells? I’m in Oregon so CVT is located in Bend, Oregon 3 hrs away compared to Roofnest in Boulder, Colorado, but that may get me to drive to Colorado and see Ouray.

Problem (huge problem) with roof top tents is you lose the roof rack for storage (if you've got a full length roof rack).
Since packing the roof rack to the gills was always important to me for long trips, a roof top tent was always out of the question. Waste of precious cargo carrying space.
I wouldn't have put one on my cruiser's roof even if someone gave it to me for free and paid me a few thousand $$ for the trouble.

The best sleeping setup -by far- (for me) I finally settled on after experimenting with every possible sleeping method under the sun was a MSR Hubba NX tent placed on top of a Camptime Roll-A-Cot with a REI 2.5" sleeping pad. Super duper comfortable. I use this setup even to this day sleeping outside on my patio.

It's just so versatile, parts collapse into small bundle, weighs only a few pounds, can be set up anywhere around your camp spot (sheltered from the wind), coyotes will leave you alone (not sure about aggressive bears) and you get to keep the roof rack free.
Only downside- one person only. No snuggling.

If you've got a full length roof rack with a plywood floor, but you're not carrying lots of cargo on the rack, that tent will fit on the roof rack perfectly- making it a roof top tent! I used that setup many times on shorter trips when I wasn't carrying so much gear.
A hard shell RTT is heavy and so limited in what it can do

It does take up roof space but do like the ability to get where we’re going and be able to set it up quick. I seem to find ways to pack accordingly, my wife on the other hand...
