Has anyone thought about using a HF trailer as a platform? I picked one up a year or two ago to haul little things around, but came across an offroad trailer build the other day, and they were using it as a base. Since then, I have found a couple other projects stemming from the HF trailer.

Here is the link: http://blogs.4wdandsportutility.com...rbor-freight-off-road-trailer-project-update/

What do you guys think? You have to admit, that's offroad trailer is pretty narly!

P.S. For any who do not know much about the HF trailers, here is the link. http://www.harborfreight.com/1195-l...tility-trailer-with-12-inch-wheels-90154.html

My dad has one. For a road going trailer they're OK. I wouldn't take it off road, too lightly constructed and by the time you fix all of that you may as well have started from scratch.

I had a similar trailer several years ago. I welded it all together where it was bolted. It worked fine for me. I used it mainly for hauling trail bikes into the back country. I did put bigger wheels and tires on it.

When there are military trailers out there, for about the same price, why not just go with something about 5 times stronger, and have some peace of mind?

Cool. You wouldn't happen to have any pictures would you? Yeah, I bet i could weld it up in a couple hours. Did you just remove the fenders and put some truck tires on it? Feel like she held up alright? It would mostly traverse dirt roads and light stuff.

I agree the military ones are stronger, I just have one of these laying around and came across these pictures on the internet. Military trailers here are going from $500-$1000+, so I thought I might be able to get away with a decent trailer for a little in parts, and free labor on a weekend. I appreciate the comment though. As NTSQD said up above as well, it is probably just not worth it.

If you already have it or its free and you don't expect it to last very long (a season maybe two?), then it *might* be worth trying. Assuming that you can glom onto some larger OD wheels & tires for free or next to nothing.

If there's to be cash outlay then I'd look for something better. I don't know the model number, but the flatbed version of the 1/4t's may be a good jumping-off point if its a flatbed that you want. Don't know what the market is for them, though I believe that they are far less common.

Sept, I picked my old trailer up for about$150.00, The wheels were free bees and I think the tires may have been as well. I did weld some angle iron up rights to the front and sides and used plywood for the sides, front , and tailgate. This pic is when it still had 13" wheels and tires. I later trimmed the fenders to fit 15" wheels.
