Has anyone done this? What I mean is has anyone tried, and got to work, connecting their APRS ham radio to a Tesla style PX6 head unit running Android 9? I recently got my official ham license (KC4TLC) and have been playing with APRS and specifically using APRS to send and receive SMS txt messages to and from cell phones when I am in a location with no cell service. I've got that to work ok and in the process ran across the idea of connecting a TNC to the radio and interfacing it with an Android phone or tablet via Bluetooth or USB. Lots of videos out there on this, and it can definitely be done but I'm wondering if anyone here has done this on a 200 running a PX6 head unit. I know, likely a long shot and we are now talking about a very small group of people (200 owners with PX6 units and Ham radios, who happen to be Mud members).
This TNC might work:
There might be a better one for a permanently installed set up in a rig. Ideally I'd want to connect it through USB to the PX6 like I have done with my OPD2 reader. What this would allow would be a pretty decent txting and message management interface using the PX6 tablet and the ability to run the APRS.fi map as well to see all your buddies running APRS plus see the location of repeaters other Hammy stuff on a big screen.
