From the article, talking about earlier models "After the engine, the only other notable value-add is if you’re dealing with one that had the optional front and rear locking differentials, which most folks will just say is a “triple-locked” 80 Series. Find one of those, and on average, you’re looking at roughly $2K in added value."

My estimate was $5000 additional value with triple locked but author is saying $2000. Original price was $1930 so either way that is a pretty amazing hold in value.
 
It said that there are solid "front" axles at all of its ends. So much for the value of that article.
 
They left out several differences between the earlier and later 80s besides the motor.
