So, I finally got my project HJ75 up and running, cruises around in first alright, shifting into second is a bit funny though... just feels like it doesn't want to go in at all.

Work done, I swapped in a box from a wrecked car, and a new clutch and slave cylinder in.

Possible things to check guys?

Maybe the synchros are a little worn? Maybe check the pedal play and the other clutch adjustments. The H55 in my BJ70 did the same thing until the box got warmed up after 5 or so minutes.

The H55F is always a bit funny about going from 1st to 2nd but it should get a little better when it warms up.
I dont bother with 1st gear(unless I really need it) and do 2nd gear take offs.

Well that is a bit more comforting... It is my first time driving one (coming from a Hilux) so I'm not quite used to the feel. I also have never had the box hot as yet, so haven't quite tested that either.

I had one rebuilt a few years back and even wih new synchroes 1st to 2nd was a bit notchety.
Youll find that the gearbox is best used as a 3sp in suburban traffic(2nd 3rd and 4th).

I think this is one reason they ceased production of the H55F in favour of the H150/151,they wanted a transmission that was bit more friendly for women and those who normally drive cars.
