I realise I'm a rare phenomenon on this board with my 5spd h151f but hopefully someone has some knowledge, I have oil leaking out of the small square hole at the bottom of section exactly between the tranny and transfer case , I'm a little nervous pulling the TC without any experience , any ideas on the likely culprit , my amsoil is all over the place
tks, Al

Had the exact same problem for about 12 months untill I finally got it fixed.
Problem is a seal between g,box and transfer is leaking letting all the g,box oil out, make sure you check the level before driving to much further.
Fix is to remove transfer in situ and change seal.
Typical $8 part that takes $800 labour to remedy.

Topend,, im going to pull the Tcase and try and figure it out,, just need to get the proceedue clear in my head first ,,may the force be with me!

I admit I didn't do the job personally but I know the techs removed the transfer in situ and changed the seal.
Refilled the cases and good to go.

Ive parked the car, drained the oil , only got 1.1l out of the gearbox bought the likly seal havent yet drained the TC as I popped the socket trying to get the top plug out but I got an impact today and will hopefully have this done by the end of the weekend, will post up when Im done

I just thought I would swing past the dealer and see if I could get any info on this, briefly spoke to the workshop mngr he said " we dont do this in our shop we would send it out to a specialist",,, Im like specialist!!!!!!! WTF he reckons they would remove the entire gearbox TC unit and send it out to gearbox people 5 hours to take it out +++, so that got me  , I bought a seal and a power bar and did this:

TCase off 6 bolts: 4 facing rear and 2 facing front, disconect Dshafts (all cleaned up) and unplug switches then slowly slide it off. its quite heavy!!!!!!!! but not impossible

This is the culprit seal on the Tcase adaptor I know because I came up short in the oil drain on the box

So the new one fitted Tcase not so easy getting back on I had to suspend it with 2 ratchet straps and line it up but its all back together now, and beer never tasted so good:beer:

Anybody wanting to do this I would suggest support the tcase with some kinda simple wood jig on wheels before taking it off that way you just wheel it back off the spline on your support change seal and then wheel it forward again onto the spline, with something like this this it would be an easy job, I dont even want to think about the bill I would have got from the dealer:eek:

Absolutely good stuff mate.I asked this question years ago and got no answer.

I must have missed it - sorry.
Been done to death in the 100srs section.
I hope you changed the selector shaft seal while the t.case was out.

Matt
