What are you guys doing with TMPS when you move to larger tires and/or new wheels? Do you move the sensors to the new wheels, buy new/used sensors or just disable the TMPS system?

If buying new sensors does it require a trip to the dealer to register them?

If going the disable route is there other options beyond cutting/grounding the blue wire?

Thanks,

P-

Disable! Well, besides the blue wire, you could cover it with a piece of electrical tape! ( that's what my dad did )

There are other ways to program them other than the dealer. We use the Toyota scan tool (laptop) to do it but SnapOn and other companies make universal readers/programmers that will do just about any car. Most aftermarket wheels will take the TPMS sensors from what I've seen. We do get people in every once in a while that went to a tire store and had wheels and tires put on and they just put regular stems in. Tire light flashing would drive me crazy though.

Another alternative is to put all the sensors in the spare. Then they will all read whatever the spare tire is and no tire light.

The spare idea is genius Sam...!

I'd love to take credit for it but it was someone else's idea. Just passing it along.

The only problem is, if you need to use your spare it's probably gonna destroy all your sensors.
