The overland OTT tuners are able to tie a second map on the Toyotas to an existing button (“ECT”), useful for a tow/haul mode. Has anyone figured out how to do a second map on a 460?

Other than that, anyone have advice for me based on your experience with an OTT tune? I am more interested in the shifting changes than throttle response, and was planning to do a lite or mild throttle map. I’m a pretty relaxed driver. I do tow regularly. I want tighter shifts and to hold a gear a little longer. A tiny bit more torque won’t hurt either.

Thanks

I too am OTT curious, for transmission ECU tuning and other gains. However, it’s my understanding that the tune doesn’t yet exist for my 2022 model year. So for the moment I utilize the Shift Power throttle mapping device to simulate improved Trans ECU shift programming with a more sensitive throttle. I use 35% linear throttle remapping on the ShiftPower. I can live with it for now, but want the OTT.

Hey guys,
I know that this post is kinda old, but I thought Id post an update on here regarding an OTT.
Last week I got the OTT done on my 2017 GX. The rig is currently on a 2.5" lift and 34" tires. After installing the lift and new tires I noticed that the rig was definitely more sluggish in accelerating and it had trouble trying to find the proper gear for the cruising speeds and accelerating speeds.
My normal highway cruising speed is about 75mph. So before the OTT it was a bit of a struggle at times for the rig to maintain that.

Now last week I got this tune done and the difference is immediately noticeable. For throttle response turning I went with Mild for now. I do kinda like this setting. It gives a throttle response that is better than the stock response rate, but not overly aggressive. (Which helps my heavy foot not go out of control. lol).
The shifting is definitely smoother than previously. I was able to get up to highway speeds without the transmission struggling to find and keep the gear it wants.
At low range it feels a little more torquey as well.
Im very pleased with this tune and it was a definitely worth it.
If your running larger tires over 33", this is a good in-between mod without having to drop a lot more money on re-gearing.

Thanks for the update. I would like to get a tune for my 14 with 33s. It isn't bad in Texas but struggles at elevation. Any extra power or transmission tuuning would help.

How much did it cost? Is there a second map alternative like OP mentioned? How is cruise on the highway? Any better, I hate the constant hunting.

Could always do a re-gear? I regeared when I installed the ARB lockers (front/rear) and even with 35's no issues with gear hunting.
Although I like to do a lot of manual shifting, especially when in curvy mountain roads. ;)

Yeah that would be the best solution but it is just so much more money. I don't think I could re-gear without doing locker while I'm in there (even though i don't need them). Just seems like a perfect opportunity but $500 vs $4000 is a big jump.

I am planning on moving out west in a few years and if I have the truck then, I'd have to regear. It is completely gutless at elevation.

Hey Fellas,

Im not sure about second map options. Im honestly not too knowledgeable in this realm. But I know that gears can cost over well over 1.3K-1.5K for just the gears, not including install if you went with a shop. The tune cost me 500$. So its a good cost saving option that can bridge the gap of performance and shifting. It should be noted though that changing the gears would be the best option from what Ive been told. I think that if you were to do both, and had the tune adjusted, it would make for a pronominal ride.
I also wouldnt say that extra power was gained, but I would agree with other statements that it feels like some extra torque was added, even if its minor.

For me, I like the gears since I did the install with both front & rear lockers. But on that note, it's a permanent mod, whereas with a tune, it can be easily undone.
My rig will NEVER see stock again.
