I've been lurking for a while but have struggled to find an answer to this question. Like a lot of people (i'm assuming) my OEM skid plate/splash shield has the front hook tabs broken off presumably from some quick lube place long ago (tangentially it also had 3 different bolt head sizes attaching the shield to the frame when i bought it, but i digress...). The problem is that every time I get under my truck to do something that requires removing the shield, it is an incredible bitch to get back on, becasue there is nothing to align it (with one hand) AND it's ****ing heavy. My assumption is that those broken off hooks help with this a great deal. So my question is, besides dropping $300 on a new oem shield, is there any way to make this process easier? Has anyone welded new hooks on or found a way to easily align their shield without? Are the cheap chinese $100 oem style shields on ebay complete trash? Maybe one of those helper clamps painters use? Please do not tell me to do more pushups, i hate doing pushups .
