Ok guys, so I am posting this here to get a feel for it and if there is enough interest I will open up a thread in the marketplace (classifieds). I have just spent an hour on the phone with precision replacement parts, a fella named Kenny helped me out and was excellent during the whole process, but I was going to place an order for the black window lock strips that kevinmcrowland has on his vehicle but to do it right with no gaps would take 3 single orders... When in fact a 100ft roll would be cheaper... I was throwing some numbers around and I don't have a def shipping cost yet.. But 100ft rolls would do 2 1/2 cruisers.. And it costs a little over 30$ and would be around 15$-20$ shipping... So that's 50$ we'll say 25$ between two people but the thing with group buys is that if we get more people in the cost would come down considerably... Maybe eventually into the sub $15 range...and pertaining to the thread that was in here earlier about having two parts under the same part number, Kenny says that was a manufactures mistake and that all of their stock is now the correct D shaped lock strip so no worries there... I'm on my iPhone at the time, but I will post a link to the thread in here previously mentioning the lockstrip... But anyway who here is down for getting rid of that chrome on their rigs? As far as I know it works for 60/62s interchangeably I just thought this would be a good way to give back to the community that has given me so much :) so post here if you think your interested and I'll work more on the numbers in the meantime...

Thank you for trying to arrange a group buy, Sas, but I don't understand this... The lockstrip is available in the correct pre-cut length for around $16, before shipping. That's the one I just had installed. If you're having trouble finding it locally, why not just order it from Precision ?

here is the link to the thread I mentioned LINK
All the info regarding the strips is in there, Kevin says its a pretty easy part to get ahold of but I have just been getting the run around from every glass shop, they point me back to the GM dealership and the dealer says that part is discontinued  I just had enough so I contacted PRP (Precision Replacement Parts) the distributor and talked the sales guy into helping me out, they usually don't sale to single buyers so it would help if I had more people to go in with me, plus I think there is a market for these and if I can help out some fellow MUD members in the process I would feel good about myself :)

Spike, the man I talked to (From Precision) said it would take 3 "single" orders to fit my vehicle without leaving gaps and having to piece it in... i.e. every window would get a full strip and I would have to piece in a smaller strip to complete the window... Also he told me that as the vehicle aged the rubber would shrink and that would leave gaps in the seal... This is the information I got FROM precision directly.. that is the assumption I was under... he said that the "single" order was only around 17ft... and iirc It takes around 40ft to correctly do the LandCruisers... is this not correct?

and Kevin Contacted me prior to all of this and said his cost for shipping plus my shipping would not be ergonomical (I guess thats the word) for either of us and the cost would be around 30$... this just seemed like a cheaper alternative

Are you talking about just the windshield or the entire truck ???

I don't have Kevin's contact info, but if he would like to interject that would be perfect! I know there was a thread in his vender forum about this not too long ago.. but I will take a second look into it. Like I said, I'm just trying to get the lock strip for my vehicle and help a few out along the way.. I couldn't ever find it locally and the dealer was no help either... so I just went straight to the source :)

Spike, I'm talking about the Entire truck... meaning the windshield the two cargo windows and the hatch window...

:bang:

Ok, well, now it makes sense...

Find out the part # for the 100' roll. ... Lemme search.

the part # is the WLS466 R-100 The guy I talked to said he knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned that the Part # had two different gaskets under it.. he said that is had to do with WHERE they were made not what part number it was under... the R-100 stands for Roll 100ft and is the exact lock strip we need...Precision got rid of the W shaped gasket and now ONLY carry the D shaped one

yea but spike, That seems to be the one with wings... that was reference in the thread I linked to above as being the thing we don't need... and the link you posted spike is 50$ more than what I can get a 100ft roll from Precision for...Precision 100 ft rolls are 30$ plus shipping... I just don't need 100ft of it, follow?

I just took another look at Kevin's thread... Kevin says he can ship it to your door for 34$ that's certainly a reasonable offer... But he also said that he wouldn't be offended if someone was to find it somewhere else because he was going to do this non profit for mud members... I just thought that since 100ft rolls are 30$ plus shipping @ 40ft per vehicle I could cut up a roll or two and offer it at a cheaper price (me not making money on it ofcourse) if 5 people get in on this I could estimate roughly 25$ on your entire vehicle shipped to your door... That's just a rough estimate including shipping to me and shipping to CONUS (USPS priority flat rate or cheapest option). I know Kevin is busy moving his shop and getting things set up I don't know how much time he has to fiddle with this, but please by all means I am in no way shape or form trying to take business from him at all!!! I hope that is clear!

Since I have an order from Sasquatch here in my inbox I guess you decided to go that route. :p I hope I didn't steer you wrong, but it seems like you went through a lot to save $4!

I've got a boat load of this stuff here and I'll keep it on hand for when folks need it.

It's $34 for 4 pieces cut to length for Cruiser windows.
A 100' roll from Precision is $30, plus shipping, plus the time to order, and that will get you enough for two trucks. I don't get a better deal on this stuff even though I brought in 900' of it, that is a big heavy box and it costs a bit to ship that to me (across the country) I then cut it up into sets, put it in flat rate boxes and send them out when people order, with both the shipping charges, and the paypal fees I think that returns me $4 to cover the other expenses like tape, paper for the labels and receipts, the gas to get to the post office, etc. And then that doesn't take care of the time to answer emails, fill orders, enter into quickbooks, split up and package the stock, etc.
I wish I could send it out for $15 which is what I paid for it a decade ago, but it is what it is.

If you take a look at the other links posted in this thread you will see that I am sending it out for way less than retail, I wish it was cheaper, but it's what I can do.

Hope that helps,
