I have been chasing a couple electrical grimlins around the truck for a few weeks (1992 FJ80 276K); the spastic sunroof is giving me fits. I have read through the other threads and I have not found anything that matches my specific issue. 50% of the time the sunroof works perfectly, open/close/tilt but the other 50% seems to be an electrical issue. When the sunroof is not working properly, I can usually open it then not close it, or it is closed and won't open (one way trip and the same for tilt). When using the switches (yes I am using them correctly) I can hear the motor recieve power or atleast click when the button is pressed showing continuity. There is nothing stuck in the track and during the times it is working the track is smooth. The glass does not budge, even in an effort to move, so my best guess right now is that I have a flakey capacitor somewhere? My reasoning is that there is some current which hits the motor, but on its off days it doesnt seem to have enough juice to move the glass. There is no rhyme or reason to this, but hopefully someone has seen this demon before.

I hate sunroofs for these types of reasons....if it is closed don't ever open it again. Problem fixed.

My first guess was the switch itself until you said it the motor was getting some power even when it doesn't work. I had a sunroof switch that I had to push really hard to make it work. If its not that, I'd suspect some corroded terminals somewhere that change resistance depending on temps, humidity and voltage, or a bad relay.

I'm currently chasing down an EGR problem that could be any one of 10 sensors going bad causing all the others to throw codes - so I feel your pain buddy. Good luck.
