Hey guys, I have just moved out from Cape Town, South Africa a month ago. Was transfered here by my company. So far, it's been real great, but it got alot better yesterday as I bought a LX 450. Sure, it's not pure breed, but close enough I reckon.

I have to get used to the luxury, as back in Cape Town I had a 40 on 35's and a SOA 62 on 35's as well. This thing is way too low for me, so I am investigating a bit of lift, and it needs new rubber.

I would like at some stage to hook up with you guys and go hit some dirt.

As my wife will be driving it in the week, I cannot go too extreme as yet, (but it will come), so I am most likely going to add some BFG A/T at the moment.

Can you guys recommend a tire dealer in Vancouver?

Tires

Welcome FJAfrica,
Your LX is still a Land Cruiser at heart. I'm sure there are a few lifts available for 80 series ;)
Depending what part of town you live in, I've had good luck with Country Tireland on King George Highway (6734 King George Highway) Surrey. I have also had good luck with Tireland at 675 Kingsway in Vancouver. I have heard that Costco is fair as well. I'm sure more will chime in.

I shopped around and finally bought my BFG KOs at tireland 675 Kingsway in Vancouver for cash and carry. I think I paid $184. each for the new 33"s. The prices have gone up since last year. Costco is a little more expensive and they include the installation, new valve, balancing and nitrogen/air fill.
Would you like to join us on this weekend's run up to Churn Creek/Gang Ranch area?
~Bill

Thanks guys, I'll try Tireland then. I now know where that is, as I bought the Cruiser near there!

Thanks for the offer Bill, I'm just not too sure about this thing yet, only got it last night, so I need to punish it nearby to see what breaks first. The PO obviously hasn't used the little lever much..... was stiff as hell and the CDL locker seems frozen. Going to need to free it all up on the weekend. I am also waiting for my container to come from SA, it has all my camping gear in it.

I will definitely join you guys on another run.

Jason

Is it?

:-)

And welcome. You join a growing SA population in the Lower Mainland and GVRD, as I've run into more and more over the last 8 years. SA is a beautiful country. I had the pleasure of spending eight weeks touring around a number of years ago. That was before my stint with LandCruisers was started.

How long is the transfer?

No help really with this post...just hello, and see if you can make a local meeting.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I see what you mean Greg, I have bumped into a number of SA-expats, quite interesting actually. My company want me here for at least 2 years, but they have given me the option of staying on after that, and I reckon we might just, the lure of easily available parts for Cruiser's in just too much for me ;-) Back in SA we either got OEM, or we had to manufacture our own.

An interesting thing happened yesterday when I got home from work, the wife had been driving the Lexus around and the first thing she said to me was, this things too low, and these tires look stupid!!! Well, what more can I say, I suggested a 2" lift and some new rubber, and she replied...... do it! What more can a man ask for?

Here is a pic of my FJ62 I had back in SA.

do NOT let go man...

welcome. i also got my tires at tireland on kingsway and they gave the best price. you might also consider www.bc4x4.com classifieds (you have to register in the forum). someone had a set of 4 305/70/16 goodyear mtrs for $600 with low wear there yesterday. they will fit your lexus very well if you are lifting it. i was sorely tempted.
