Some of you heard it, and some of you may have read about it, but GB was making a clunking noise after we left the mining claim last weekend. It would only do it when I turned left... which had me thinking front axle. It also sounded like it was coming from up front. So I pulled the pass side birf, but found no trouble there.
Well today I fired it up and took it for a spin and had my friend Pat drive it in circles. Turns out.... when I backed off the rock I had parked on right before hitting the pavement on Sunday, the rear axle was tweaked enough to allow the zerk fitting on the rear U joint to grab the gas tank skid plate and bend it down towards the drive shaft. Then whenever I turned left, the rear axle shifted enough for the zerk to hit the bent skid plate... All due to the welded rear end I'm sure...
Very strange... But I'm glad I found it and that it's fixed!
Now I have a leak at the front transfercase that I'm going to have to look into...
P.S. Ty, I pulled the rear bumper off today, I'll plan on bringing it north next time I head that way unless you say different.
