Excellent! I have been seriously considering a GX470 as a rig to build.

I am hoping that by calling ARB USA I can get the answers I need regarding lift and bullbar applications for the US spec GX.

Let us know what you find out from ARB.

Called ARB. Apparently, as the Prado is sold in S. American markets, the bull bars and much of the accessories for the Prado/120 are stocked at the US distribution center, and are therefore available to purchase through your favorite dealer.

I was cautioned about the suspension, telling me that due to some (T__?__) something I was 'on my own with warranty' when installing the suspension on the GX470.

I want to be able to install at least a 2" lift for cargo carrying and installing a larger tire, so I guess I am going to wait until I see how people work around those issues before I throw my 80 up for sale and go shopping for a GX.

Moody,

It has already been worked out. The rear is easy as it has a rear air system that can be reset to ride higher. People have done two things to the front. You can add a spacer or do like the guys at 4wheeler mag. Pull up thier website and look at project vechicles. It's called the Triallex. You may want to get a GX without KDSS if you plan major modification. Lexwoody has lifted his GX. Do a search for his post on the subject.

Nothing too major, sliders, dual battery, snorkel, bullbar, and rear storage. Mostly a backcountry camp rig.

I have been eyeing a 2003 with low miles, non KDSS (those are 04+ IIRC) and without too much crap on it.

So from what I understand I can't just grab an OME lift kit for a newer 4Runner and throw it on there, which is what I was -really- hoping to be able to do.

I want the V8, but the goodies too. I may just bag it all and go for a V8 4Runner.

The Trail Edition 4Runner would be worth looking at if you want new. The 4Runner spacer is what you use to lift the front of the GX. The back only needs to be ajusted. The main thing is everything else need to be custom.
