Now on my third day in Utah backcountry. Ran Notham Rd and Burr Trail and lots of side road trips. The pond nearby my camp was frozen over this AM but my new Wiggy bag kept me toasty. Still on track to be at the Escalante Visitors Center today at 4:00.

Wish you could too but had a guy show up yesterday in a 4Runner and both a great guy and very experienced. Check out our view this evening.

Went out the same road that Doug turned around on in 2011. It leads to Death Ridge Rd with a "road impassable" sign at the start. I made it two years ago but had to retreat this time. But with a couple of picks & shovels and strong backs it could be done. Anyone up for a challenge maybe next year? The place that stopped me was not this bad, but close.

Now back home after a memorable trip. Fourteen days, 1133 miles and 397 were on dirt. All the roads I drove had been freshly graded which made them kind of boring and extremely dusty but if they hadn't been done all would have been impassable. The exception being the one described above but even that had been done about half way. On the way home I explored an area new to me in the Henry Mts. This area is bordered by Hwys 24, 276, 95 and Notom Rd. It is highly criss-crossed with dirt roads many which look good for 4x4. More trip photos.

Here's a few photos shot in the Henrys described above. I drove 35 miles in the dirt that day and never saw another vehicle or even a house, with the exception of the long abandoned Starr Ranch. I really liked that area and will do further exploring next year.
