It's finally humid enough and in a couple of weeks it will probably be hot enough to do another GPS run. If everyone's happy enough in the KC area I'll go out and set it up. There is still penty of space out at Minor park as well as another spot not too far away. I'd go out to Shawnee Mission park also.

This time I'll make sure to lay the course in degrees-minutes-seconds as I didn't do that last time. I don't mind having another system other than the cards to mark places, any suggestions? What I did like about the cards was that it gave you something to find with information about the next point on it. If there are enough digital cameras around we could list all the points and just snap a picture of the reading on the GPS as you hit the points.

I would agree with Chris. Actually in the parks, the error can be 30ft or more due to the trees obstructing some of the gps sats.

I'm packing more water and possibly wearing real shoes this time! :)

The 16th could work for me. If we do it a SM Park, I suggest having one of the control points be in my garage and to get credit for navigating to it you must wrench on the 4Runner for at least 20-minutes. Bonus points will be given for time spent removing rust.

Here is another thought put one of the control points on the bank of SM Lake requiring the use of a paddle boat to locate...just a thought

How about around nine at the Winstead's where were at last time? I went out and looked around yesterday and was thinking something a little longer than last year with less wading(sorry Pashia), a little bushwhacking and more points to make it easier to get around.

Does anyone have a compass similar to this? I'd like to try a bit of triangulation, but I don't think the GPS alone will work for that. I've got one, but a couple more would be good.

Since I didn't make the last one, which Winsteads did you meet at and how long of a course do you map out. Is this a 2-hour;1/2-day or full day thing?

Also, i have about 3 of the compasses you have picture.

It was the Winsteads at 435 and Roe. If you could bring those that would be cool. If you have one or more of the coordinators for topo maps that would be nice also. The maps are 1:24.

As far as time maybe figure on 4 or so hours. Distance may be two or three miles. I think we met at 8 something last time and after breakfast we finished running at one or two.

If anyone in addition to Chris, Randy, Scott, and Erik is planning to show up please post so I can copy a map for you.

Gary,

I am going to have to bail. I forgot I had a church commitment that morning that I can't get out of. Sorry I have to miss it it should be a sweaty good time. Thanks for putting it together again.

Gary,

I should be able to make it. If it winds up being as hot as predicted, I may not last 4 hours, tho... :frown:

I've got a sighting compass that's always in the glove box of the 40 I can bring..
Bob.. Can you bring my AC stuff with ya? Needing to do a car here very shortly.
Anything else? Hoping heather doesn't have to work.

Just got done setting it out, it took about two and a half hours so we can probably run in that time or less. Don't bother with the compass, I wasn't able to work out the necessary information on my maps. The river is running higher than last year, about knee deep on me so plan for a couple of wades. Hopefully it will drop more by tomorrow.
