Well this is a weird one. I've searched the forum but have not found another report of this problem.

My GPS does not work - meaning it does not show my current actual location on the map. I can set my location using the 'manual input' procedure (p.79 of the Nav manual), but after that it starts to drift. or example, the NAV map currently shows me near Cheyenne Wyoming, ~ 150 miles NE of my actual location. While I'm driving, it shows me moving - so it's aware of movement, just not location.

Any ideas?

Run a DTC Check from the screen, see if you can find an error.

Okay, ran diagnostics (thanks planomateo) and it looks like the nav. system 'cannot receive a GPS signal.' The GPS appears to be finding satellites, but not reading a signal from them. So I suspect the GPS antenna. Does anyone know where the GPS antenna is located in the 100 series?

Dont Panic. I have a 01 GS300 Lexus with the same Nav system (Generation 2/3) that experienced the same problem. It was just the Antenna - not a Nav unit problem

Do an internet search for Toyota GPS antenna and you will find several sellers that have aftermarket GPS antennas that will plug right into the nav system located under the right front seat ( I think I paid about $20 for one) Make sure to get one for TOYOTA

Check what cable connection you have (may have to remove the passenger seat to get to it) and buy one to match. If you cannot locate the exact connector, that is ok - just swap the connector from the existing antenna cable onto the aftermarket cable - I recall that is what I had to do on mine. Rather than running it to the exterior of the vehicle, I just mounted mine to a corner of the dash.

Note that on the nav screen - top left -Just under the North pointing arrow - that there is a GPS signal indicator - If the unit is getting a good signal there is a Green GPS button displayed. If you take the passenger seat out it may just be a loose or corroded antenna connection to the nav unit.

It has been working fine for the past 5 years with the aftermarket antenna.

I'll give you a whole 2006 stock nav set up with antenna if you trade me the plastic in the pic.

Thanks jerryb for the kind offer but I'm going to pursue Mark WV's excellent suggestion first - look for a bad connection under the passenger seat, and if necessary replace the antenna with an aftermarket one.
