I currently don't know of any consumer units that will allow the uploading of arials. I am using my gps in conjunction with Terrain Navigator on the lap top. The two are linked live while I am driving around looking for new hunt areas. My understanding is that Terrain Navigator pro will allow you to work with arials real time.

HTH.

If I understand you correctly, check out the Delorme PN-20. I do not have personal experience with it but from what I understand it will let you upload ariels (such as Google Earth shots) to it.

The garmin 276C is the standard that all are judged. You will be able to get all the topo data you need for the states. If you want to get data like goggle earth you need to link your gps to a computer. I would stick with a 276C and with the topo data, the computer thing is just extra crap in the cab.

I have a PN-20, and it will allow the loading of sat and air photos onto the unit. data. Its a great unit, although I tend to keep a laptop with me as the screen is so much bigger/better.

Still, the PN-20 will do everything you ask. You have to pay to donwload images from DeLorme, however I believe you can make your own as well.

Attached is a screen shot w/waypoints on a sat image.

Go Garmin

Having been a long time navigator (since before gps) by means of terrain association, aerial photos have almost NO worth to me. You can't get a good idea of contour interval from a picture that has been taken from outer space or even if from low altitude especially if you are navigating in an area with heavy tree cover. For me the ability to upload a 1/24,000 topo map is really key.

I would HIGHLY recommend ANYTHING by Garmin, if for no other reason than that I am extremely confident that they will be around twenty plus years from now which in the world of tech and electronics I can't say about a lot of the others.

I second that about Garmin. My first GPS I had @ 10 years ago died about a month out of warantee. I sent Garmin an email and they aasked me to send it in. I was expecting them to tell me it would be $$XXX to have it fixed. Instead they sent me a brnad new unit.

I call that excellent customer service.
