I live in Charleston SC and have never had a good chance to test out my LX470 and take it for a weekend of camping. This trail seems like a great place to start and was wondering if anyone goes up there on a regular basis and that I could maybe tag along? Looks like alot of fun from youtube videos

What offroad trail are you talking about? When I search "Gorges State Park Trail" I only get hiking trails.

There is a trail at the end of the parking lot. The gate is usually open and it ends you up at a nice stream / parking area and a gated bridge. It’s about 4 miles to the end and more trails / fire roads that meander off that I didn’t check out when I was there. Not super technical stuff, but fun and great spot for camping.

UC got kicked out of that spot by DNR last weekend on our over the mountain tour.

You're talking about the '4x4 only' road down to the right turn into Toxaway game lands, on down to Horsepasture River.

It is listed as a designated camping area but others, as stated above, were recently turned away.

I'm not sure it's the sort of place you need company, if you're concerned about that! However, I have gone by myself less than a handful of times and both myself and the rangers I bumped into were surprised by how quickly trees had come down across it.

That stinks. Last chat with a ranger said if gate was open at ranger/visitor ctr then it was good to go to gate at SC line. Sounds like it may be worth a call to verify.

@gamecock2009 Have you considered coming to Logan's Run at URE in September? URE has some great beginner-friendly trails and would be excellent camping time to meet fellow cruisers, learn more, etc.

I haven't but ill definitely look into it, Im getting married in October so its going to be tough for me to get away for a weekend until then haha

Bring your betrothed. It is a great weekend that is family friendly. There are beginners all the way up to wild rides. You will be greeted by some of the friendliest and (most importantly) knowledgeable bunch of Cruiser Heads around.

so very true....
