One of my buddies from Texas is coming in town. Does anybody know of some decent areas for Quail hunting? I'm thinking like brushy washes with in 40 miles of Scottsdale. Ideal area would involve using the 40 to stir up the covey, locate where they land, stir em up again and shoot. Any ideas? The plan is to hunt on Monday or play golf (like Tiger???) Nah! just golf.

Really...Your going to get beaten by your wife and then run into a fire hydrant in your driveway trying to get away? :hillbilly: :flipoff2: (I had nothing of substance to add on the real subject)

A good place to hunt quail is up the Verde River, especially up by Sheep's Crossing. I'm headed out tomorrow morning up Four Peaks to shoot me some quail and do a little exploring.

Thx Mr Hustle. Is Four Peaks decent for birds? I'll take the turbo diesel 4 door to four peaks. The 40 might be a little snug for my buddy.

All of my quail hunting buddies at work say that Four Peaks is pretty good. I haven't been yet, so I'll find out tomorrow.

Good Luck out at Four Peaks! Let us know how the hunting is. I have been looking for good hunting close to home but have struck out so far!

Go past the Four Peaks turnoff for a few miles and go to the Dos S turn off (not labled). You come down a small steep hill that curves to the left into a straight away. At the bottom of the small hill at the right is a turnoff before the road straightens out. There are some nice roads that lead to a large wash with mesquites lining it. There is also a spring not far from there that supplies water to the local animals.

Lat time I was there last year we scared up several coveys.

What beautiful weather to be outside! :bounce:

Well I never made out to Four Peaks last week, but I am heading out there this morning. I'll check out that area Murf, thanks!

Good Luck. Let us know how it goes.

Well I just got back. The drive was great, I stopped a couple of times to do a walk about. I found a really good area where this morning I saw dozens of quail flying off, but unfortunately never really had a good shot. I did get one down, which I found, but it flapped away and I lost it. Darn. Four Peaks is beautiful right now with snow capped on top.

I think this years lack of rain hurt the Quail population. What brand/guage/type of shotgun are you you shooting?

Yea, opening day was really good for me. Got 7 that day! I use a Remington Model 1100 12 GA semi-automatic. Great gun! What about you murf?

The exact same shotgun :) a smooth shooting and well designed gun. I shot for years when the law would premit a shooter to only carry three shells, two in the magazine and one in the chamber. It changed back where the plug could be removed to be able to carry the full magazine load as designed - better. I usually shoot the Modified barrel on quail and Improved cylinder on dove. I havent been bird hunting in years though...

Them Quails is good eatin'! tastes like chicken :D

I actually do enjoy the taste of quail. Very much like chicken, but there is a little something else to it. So as far as I know, the plug has to be in now. Only 3 shells allowed. Hmmm? :hhmm:

I took my dog out for the first time today. She did very well actually. I was really hoping to get one so I could show her the scent of a quail. Maybe next time.

Let me know if you ever want to go out shootin' murf

Quail

Check out the south side of the Beeline - Sycamore Wash. Great quail hunting. However, the best is north of Wickenburg - Congress and Aguila areas.

Sheep's crossing or 4 peaks is where its at for the little feathered buggers. For all the bird hunters on here maybe we can organize a csc quail hunt or something to that extent?

Where is Sheep's crossing? 4 peaks... I gotta stop working so much and get out more

Where is that written? I missed that some how.
