Found a 1UZ-FE in a wrecked car. Just wondering what a good price is for it. It has 102,477 miles. They have pictures and it seems that the radiator was slightly damaged but no damage to front of engine.

1UZ-FE is a 4.0L engine right? Good for a swap?

Thanks

HP and torque are a little higher than the 1FZ but don't come on until higher revs. If you're mostly on the street it'd be a good choice. The 1UZ is really popular with the street crowd and a couple have been put in 80's and 40's. $400-$500 is typical for an engine at the wrecker's with ECU and wiring harness. Check out UZswap.com and Lextreme.com.

I also found a 5.0L with transmission and wiring with 60K on it for $250. Wouldn't be the most popular swap but might be cheaper. Anyway, thanks for the 1UZ advice. I use it mostly as a DD but that's about to change because I've convinced the wife to get a different (newer) vehicle so I can use hers for work. So 1UZ might be a less than ideal choice.

In its standard, original trim with 10:1 compression, power output is 191 kW (250 hp), torque of 353 N·m (260 ft·lbf).[1] 1989-1994

1UZ-FEThe engine was slightly revised in 1995 with lighter connecting rods and pistons and an increased compression ratio to 10.4:1 resulting in peak power of 195 kW (260 hp) and torque of 363 N·m (270 lb·ft).1995-1997

In 1997, Toyota's VVT-i variable valve timing technology was introduced along with a further CR increase to 10.5:1,[1] bumping power and torque to 216 kW (290 hp) and 407 N·m (300 ft·lbf). In the GS400 application, output was rated at 300 hp and 310 ft-lb of torque.1998-2000

I like my 1uzfe(95LS400) but uncle G is kind of right little week on the low end but the power continues to grow all the way to red line at 6200 RPM. I do get 25mpg out of my car/tank though.

there was a complete 1uz out of a 2003 tundra here in memphis for sale for $1250 Ill see if i can find the link again today

Wouldn't it be cheaper, easier, quicker, etc, to just sell the '80 and buy a '100? Then you would have the V8, better A/C, more comfortable, would be easier to pass emissions, likely more reliable than a swap, etc.

You didn't buy one either...

I'm just thinking ahead to when I'll have to do something about the high mileage 1FZ. I can eaither rebuild it or swap. I suppose I could buy a 100 but why would I buy it when I could by a much cheaper IFS U.S. brand vehicle?

In other words, if I wanted IFS I wouldn't have purchased an 80 and if I wanted to spend $3000 for a mod I wouldn't choose to do a front axle swap.

Agree, but I'm also very happy with the 1FZ, for my use it's well matched to the rig. If/when it were to die, would replace with the same. I count it as a big asset to the rig. If I needed a bigger motor would buy a rig with one and mod it to my needs.

I have done many motor swaps, dealt with emissions, reliability issues, etc, also have done straight axle swaps. In my experience axle swaps are much less invasive, easier to do and most times much less expensive. But your experience may differ? If your looking for a much cheaper vehicle, jeeps have V8's, straight axles and are cheap.:hillbilly:

Can you fit 6 grown passengers in a jeep? I think not.

I never said I was unhappy with my 1FZ. You keep saying "I am", "I would", "I have" but what you fail to realize is that I am not you.

And what axle would you put on your 100 Series for a straight front axle swap? I'm sure there are a bunch of companies selling kits to do it right? If not then were you planning on getting a specialty shop to do it or do it yourself? Time is money so either way you're going to pay.

Forgiven. I'm fairly jumpy these days. I'm planning to quit nicotine and it's not that easy.

Some simple things end up disturbing me.

To your surprise I found a 1FZ that I could buy and work on over the next 'x' months while I "use up" the current 1FZ. Only tools I need to buy are a hoist, engine stand and leveler thing. I'll need some rebuild tools but I think I can rent most of those.

I noticed on my current 1FZ that there is some Orange gasket stuff around the valve cover. I suspect it was just a replacement of the valve cover gasket but then I got to thinking...I bought this vehicle used and the engine could have already been rebuilt. It runs pretty darn good.

How would I tell?

The PO no longer responds to my calls. I think they moved.
