I have an 83 BJ42 and wanting to know where others are putting an AUX tank on their late model FJ/BJ's? It looks like there is plenty of room in the rear behind the other tank?

My BJ40 has an auxiliary tank mounted behind the rear axle, it is a 12 Imp gallon tank out of a Bronco, I believe. It is plumbed to one of the vent hoses of the factory tank with a tee and has an electric pump to transfer fuel into the main tank when enough is burned off to make room. I didn't worry about a quantity guage, when the main gets down to 1/4 I run the pump for 20 mins, transfers all the fuel to the main tank which ends up pretty much full. The auxiliary tank is either completely full or completely empty. You do have to find another place to mount the muffler, it needs an aftermarket muffler to work. I use a stock front pipe and center pipe, cut out a piece of the center pipe and install a muffler there.

Early Bronco factory tank? That sounds like a good setup.

Search the FAQ and this BB for Blazer (not Bronco) tank setup

At least 1 good write-up with pics. Blazer tank is maybe 20 gallons, and sits low. Me thinks you will need a lift or SOA if you want any sort of decent ground clearance.

Apparently Suzuki sidekick tanks also fit, but they are only 11 gallons.

I know all this 'cause I have been reading up on how to do it after searching and reading the FAQ sections.

Problems I read about include rear axle hitting the blazer tank necessitating bending it a bit, and rear shocks hitting the tank, requiring denting a bit.

I've got a 20 gallon aux tank that sits over the rear axel, but the PO instaled it so i dont know what type it is.
